Wellington Zoo is thrilled to have achieved carboNZero certification again, after becoming the first Zoo in the world to be carboNZero certified in 2013.
This achievement shows how seriously we take our commitment to minimising the Zoo’s environmental impact and creating a brighter future for the world's wildlife.
As part of our carboNZero certification, we've made a commitment to continually work on reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. Over the past four years we've implemented a range of initiatives to cut back on our power use and waste generation.
Efforts this year have included recycling old marketing billboards into bags sold in the Zoo shop, and upgrading to LED lights throughout the Zoo to reduce power consumption.
Take a look around the Zoo to see just how we have worked to shrink our carbon footprint, and find out ways you can do the same at home.
Plus keep an ear out for news about an exciting new energy project in the works that will help us continue to minimise our impact on the environment.
About carboNZero
carboNZero certified organisations have measured their organisations greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions so they understand what their impact is on the global climate. They then make a commitment to managing and reducing their GHG emissions by creating an emissions management and reduction plan. Any remaining emissions that the organisation cannot avoid are then offset by purchasing verified carbon credits. Check out the full list of certified organisations.
